塑料它可以是纯的树脂,也可以是加有各种添加剂的混合物,树脂起粘结剂作用。所加添加料的目的是用来改善纯树脂的物理机械性能,改善加工性能或者为了节约树脂。
因此,塑料最基本的物理化学性质是由树脂的性质所决定的。树脂可分天然树脂和人造树脂,后者又称合成树脂。
树脂都属高聚物,这些高聚物有独特的分子内部结构与分子外部结构。高分子内部结构决定了高聚物最基本的物理化学性质;而高分子外部结构则决定高聚物的加工性能和物理机械性能。 聚合物按链之间在凝固后的结构形态可分非结晶型(无定型),半结晶型和结晶型。所以塑料也有无定型和结晶型之分。 结晶型塑料在凝固时,有晶核到晶粒的生成过程,形成一定的体态。如PE,PP,PA,POM,等均属结晶型。 无定型塑料在凝固时,没有晶核与晶粒的生长过程只是自由的大分子链的“冻结”如PS,PVC,PMMA,PC等。
又按其塑料对热作用的反映,可分热塑性塑料与热固性塑料两类:热塑性塑料的特点是加热可以软化,冷却时又重返固态。这一可逆过程,可以反复多次。如:PS,PVC,PA,PP,POM等;而热固性塑料特点是在某一温度下能转变成可塑性熔体,但如果继续提高温度,延长加热时间高分子内部将产生交联作用而固化。再不能用加热方法使其软化到原始状态,不能反复加工。如:环氧,呋喃,氨基,酚醛等。
